Round 3 FAQ | Round 3 Questions

GENERAL

Just What Is Mock Murder?
Mock Murder is essentially a murdergame that doesn't heavily follow the strict rules of most games (mostly murdergames), in general - some rounds come with no Activity Check, others come with murders only happening once every other week. The schedule of this game is mostly flexible.

The story will change with each round, even if the main plot (that lurks in the background at all times) remains the same.

Player decisions heavily impact everything, so it's encouraged that everyone at least OOCly communicates as much as possible.

Which Characters Can Be Apped?
Primarily for OU fandom characters, their canon must be both in English somewhere and at least a month old. If less than six months old, a Permissions Post must be on the character's journal that allows people to opt out of spoilers, should they desire that.

All characters must fit the current round's required level of maturity. For the game as a whole, however, they must be at least one of the following:

A.) Capable of understanding what it means to take another person's life - handling it is another matter, entirely, and doesn't have bearing on eligibility.
B.) Capable and willing to choose to enter a game for some kind of price (friend's life, all the money ever, a new car, etc). Not to say this is the reason for folks to be in the current or in future rounds, but it's a good way to determine mental maturity for this kind of game.

Physically, all characters must appear to at least be within the preteen range. Of course, some rounds might wind up having a higher age limit.

They must be capable of participating in both an investigation and a trial. Whether, or not, it's productively done is another matter entirely - if you wish to play someone who'd only get in the way, go for it.

Original characters, characters from an Alternate Universe, and characters from previous games (both this one and other Dreamwidth RP games) are all allowed.

How Do You Handle 'Doubles' Or 'Same Faces'?
Naturally, allowing CRAUs, AUs, and even multiple apps for a single character (across multiple rounds) means that we'll run into cases of multiple versions of one character. Persona 5 protag has been allowed to meet multiple versions of the Persona 5 protag, for instance.

Joining this game means agreeing to the chance that there might be at least a second version of your character somewhere (NPC versions of player characters sometimes pop up).

We also allow up to 2 different versions of one character to be apped into a single round. We allow no more than 2 sets of doubles, per round, by default. Naturally, some rounds will have different rules.

What Is The Cast Cap?
3 characters per canon!

For something such as Kingdom Hearts, this counts as one group. Something such as the 'Tales of' series would be counted as separately grouped, per installment.

You Mentioned Some Rounds Have No AC...
And this continues to hold truth.

Depending on the length of the round, there might be things in place of counting comments! There will always be updated expectations on the AC page, itself. Information on things such as bonuses and types of rewards will be there, as well.

How Long Does A Round Usually Last?
This will vary, according to the plot. Some will last as few as 4 weeks, while others will last as many as 8 weeks. For round-specific numbers, check the current round's toplevel, as well as the current round's expectations!

LAWS OF MURDER

I Have A Confession: I've Never Murdergamed Before
You're very definitely welcome here, and we'll do everything we can to help you understand what to expect well before you even submit your app.

First things first: You must be willing to kill off your character.

All victims are chosen - by the player of that week's culprit and/or by a member of the mod team. And (in at least most cases) everyone becomes fair game.

Speaking of, most Fridays are when the victim's body will be found. An investigation will occur where those remaining are tasked with gathering as many pieces of evidence as they can. In most cases, they will be allowed to take pictures of everything that seems important (most evidence will be bolded, but there are times when it's up to the player to decide the level of importance).

Keep in mind that, in most cases, the culprit is part of the group. There is absolutely never going to be a rule against the culprit interfering with the success of gathering correct evidence. Sometimes, there will even be a mole - someone with the actual job of messing with evidence.

The next day, both ICly and OOCly, there will be a trial. This is the time for everyone to list off all their clues. These clues will be used to help everyone find the culprit. Whether or not this is successful is entirely up to the players' ability, as a group, to piece together everything that they found.

My Character Deda
Alas.

But, in most cases, this is where a different kind of fun will be taking place. Not every round will have a Deadland, but every round will give the dead at least something unique. Whether this is endless puzzles and trolling of the living, or not, will depend on the kind of round. Some rounds will even allow the dead to blatantly haunt the living (round 1 was able to play music at them and haunt their tablets).

Explanations will always be in the respective Deadland post (where applicable).

Oh No...! We Caught The Wrong Person
It isn't fine, but you guys will not be getting a full party wipeout. So, it's... sorta fine? Maybe.

There will be some rounds where the death of one or two characters, in particular, will result in something bad happening. For most rounds, there will not be clear warnings prior to this happening. This is due to the fact that there will be hints provided throughout the game as a whole.

For rounds carrying this much of a risk, we will always try to warn before the start of it.

I Imagine Powers Would Make Murder Easier For Some Than Others...
Which is why, in most rounds, powers get nerfed - at least, to some degree. Those without powers are given some.

It'll be easier to give an example of something from a round like that, than it would be to simply explain:

Someone apped mid-canon Naruto Uzumaki and another person apped Noiz from DRAMAtical Murder. Naruto is nerfed to early canon abilities (and minus Kurama), while Noiz is given the powers of super strength and super speed, as well as the ability to control static electricity.

They aren't balanced perfectly, but Naruto is no longer capable of breaking the game within seconds.

I should probably ask before I submit an application since I'm kind of unsure - especially since the Kingdom Hearts wikis are kind of ??? and it doesn't seem to be listed anywhere, but the application states listing a 'base element', but I'm not exactly sure which elements are available to choose from, so which ones do we actually have here?
